Breaking the Silence: Mental Health Awareness in Educational Spaces
May is globally recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the importance of mental well-being and to foster supportive environments that prioritize mental health—especially in educational settings.
At Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences, we believe in nurturing the minds that will heal, lead, and shape our future. This year’s awareness message—“Mental health awareness is essential in every educational space—because well minds build wise minds”—reminds us that academic excellence is only possible when students and staff feel mentally safe, supported, and valued.
Educational institutions are often high-pressure environments. Exams, peer pressure, financial burdens, and future uncertainties can take a significant toll on students’ mental health. When left unaddressed, these stressors may lead to anxiety, depression, burnout, or worse. That’s why mental health awareness isn’t just an option—it’s a necessity.
Through campaigns, workshops, counseling services, and open conversations, EkoUNIMED is committed to creating a campus culture where mental health is prioritized and stigma is dismantled. We encourage everyone—students, educators, and staff—to seek help, offer support, and advocate for policies that protect mental wellness.
Let this Mental Health Awareness Month serve as a powerful reminder: “There is no Health without Mental Health”.
