Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences (EkoUNIMED), one of Nigeria’s leading medical institutions, marked a historic moment with its 7th Matriculation Ceremony held on Thursday, February 6, 2025. The event, which took place at the Alhaja Ajarat Atinuke Ibraheem Memorial Multi-Purpose Hall in Ijanikin, Lagos State, officially welcomed a new cohort of students into the prestigious university.
Matriculation at EkoUNIMED is more than just an academic formality; it is a rite of passage for students stepping into the rigorous and rewarding world of medical education.
The hall was filled with students, faculty members, Deans, Staff members, and Parents of the Matriculants, all eager to witness this significant occasion.
The ceremony commenced at 10:00 AM, featuring an Academic Procession led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. G.O.G. Awosanya, along with other distinguished members of the University. Their presence reinforced EkoUNIMED’s commitment to Academic excellence, discipline, and professional development in healthcare education.
Inspiring Speeches and a Landmark Announcement
The ceremony featured motivational speeches from key figures in the university. Among the highlights was a goodwill message from Arowolo Favor Oluwaseun, a 500-level student and Pioneer Vice President of the EkoUNIMED Student Association (Ekoumsa). In his heartfelt address, he urged the new students to embrace the challenges of medical education with determination:
“One day, lives will be placed in your hands, and who you become here will decide whether those lives are safe under your care. Hardship is not your enemy—it is your teacher.”
The most groundbreaking announcement of the day came from Prof. S.G. Odewunmi, who revealed that EkoUNIMED had received FULL ACCREDITATION from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) following a Final Accreditation exercise in December 2024. This milestone means that the Pioneer Students can now take their Final Professional Examinations, paving the way for the university’s first-ever Convocation Ceremony later this year.
A New Generation of Medical Professionals
Dressed in red academic gowns, the matriculating students took their solemn oath as directed by the Registrar – L.O. Animashuan Esq. to uphold the values of excellence, integrity, and compassion in their medical journey. Many students expressed their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to be part of one of Nigeria’s top Private Medical Institutions.
